About Us
About Us
So what is the YAU all about?
- The project opperates across the city
- We help young people to have a say on things that affect them
- We run projects where young people can express themselves
- We try to work with as many different young people in as many different ways as possible
- The project helps young people to be more aware of their rights and responsibilities
- The project is about giving young people power, and helping them to use it
- We take all our ideas from young people, and this helps us to develop new projects
- We are based in a centre, but run daytime, evening, and one off projects both in and outside of our centre
- We hold annual youth conferences and other youth consultation events
- The project visits and works with other youth groups in the city
- We help young people to take an active involvement in their community
- The YAU is part of the Youth Service, which is run by Portsmouth City Council
The YAU uses Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC), as a guideline for most of the work we do.
(Article 12 - children and young people have a right to express an opinion, and to have that opinion taken into account, in any matter affecting them).
